                     “Does it matter?”

He was never good at expressing his emotions. Everything just seemed so black and white to him, and when he performed, the line between ‘appropriate’ and ‘tactless’ became even more blurred. It felt too late to change; besides, he didn’t know what he needed to change into. Upon hearing the news of Sonja’s plans to marry the hick, his expression darkened. And, of course, he felt a little hurt that she hadn’t bothered to pick up the phone and tell him. But he DID force her to choose. Things between them were more than strained, and a phone call would be out of the question.

Whether Selene was giving him a way out or not, he didn’t care. He seized it and nodded, muttering about how he would be back home in time for dinner. He didn’t ask if she would be there; he was so used to seeing her there that it was almost automatic.

she’s been a daddy’s girl since day one, and she knows him better than even he’s aware. it’s one reason she’s given him the chance to get out of their conversation, and when he takes it, she’ll nod in silent understanding.   ❛ be safe, father. ❜   he’s known to be reckless at the best of times, and with the heavy news of his eldest daughter getting married soon, selene knows he’ll turn to either music or booze; she truly hopes it’s the former this time around.

it’s nearly five hours when the brunette hears the front door open, though she remains sitting at the table with her hands folded atop the surface. she’d cooked dinner two hours previous, expecting her father home earlier, her jaw set and lips thinned. it goes without saying she’s upset he’s so late, but selene is willing to hear the reasoning behind his tardiness.   ❛ i thought you’d be home sooner. ❜

                  “No. I don’t.”

It was a lie, of course. He remembered what it was like to have someone know everything about him. Though he was happy, the emotional fallout was more than he could bear. Sonja and Selene were the only reasons why he kept on working and not succumb to an unhealthy dose of drugs, drink, and debauchery. Well, he might have recently overindulged in alcohol, but at least he wasn’t snorting cocaine at the same time.

The mention of Lucian had him frown, and he ran his gnarled fingers through his hair. He missed his daughter, but he was a prideful prick who refused to see reason. Maybe he should change; they were just a few months shy after the new year.

“But she is happy. Does she sound happy?”

Are you?

❛ do you truly want to know, or are you just asking because you feel obligated to? ❜   selene inquires softly, brows furrowing deeply. it’s rare that viktor shows such interest in his eldest daughter, especially after all that’s happening, and the young woman before him can’t help but to be a bit… worried.   ❛ she sounds happy, yes. they’re talking about getting married. ❜   she won’t tell her father that sonja and lucian are actually expecting a child… it’s best sonja tell him herself.

shifting in place out of slight discomfort at knowing such information and not telling viktor, the brunette briefly averts her gaze and clears her throat.   ❛ aren’t you late for a sound check or something? i don’t want to keep you. ❜   being the youngest definitely had its downsides, but at least she has music to share with her father… even though he sometimes seems more concerned about his other daughter.

           “Do I have any left?”

Muttering something about tabloids and pesky
paparazzi, he turned and downed the last of his
vodka. It was not even noon and he was already
                            drinking. A world record.

When his daughters were younger, he made sure
that they were kept out of the public eye. He was
fine being attacked by vicious columnists, but it was
another thing to drag Sonja and Selene into the shit-
storm that was his profession. But he did have a few
flaws. He wasn’t going to win any awards for ‘Father
of the Year.’ Looking up at his younger daughter, he
                             said:

“No. Nothing that you’ve already heard. Have you
gotten any message from your sister yet? Family
dinner is coming up next week.”

image

❛ i don’t know, DO you? if so, i’d love to hear these new secrets. ❜   selene teases her father, arms remaining crossed over her chest as she watches him closely for any hint of hesitation. instead, however, his attention is shifted back to his drink, of which the younger woman knows full well is alcohol. and even with his eventual assurance that he’s got nothing to hide, she’ll question him silently. after all, he’s truly never been father of the year.   ❛ yes, but she has nothing to say to you. the only way she’s to come to dinner is if you allow her to bring lucian. ❜   and both sonja and selene know he won’t allow it.

“Jesus Christ, Selene! If you’re going to
listen to rock n’ roll, at least choose one
      of the CLASSICS.”

His heyday as a hip rolling, head banging rockstar were OVER
( twenty years overdue, some critics said ), but he still clung to
whatever fame he had left. No, the 21st century was for his two
musically inclined daughters. But with Sonja hanging out with a
indie punk rocker from ‘across the Thames’ and Selene being…
well, Selene, his dreams of entering music nepotism were being
                            dashed.

“Jumped up little shits singing about sex
            and drugs. IDIOTS.”

truly, selene enjoys giving her father a hard time. he’d driven her sister away, after all, leaving the younger woman to deal with all of his judgments and scoldings. maybe it’s because of the separation from her sister that she’s turned to listening to this music, even singing it against viktor’s pleas and put downs, but she’d never admit it regardless.   ❛ you’re just jealous, father. you don’t need to say anything… your secret is safe with me. ❜   selene loves the man, of course she does, but he’s still got a multitude of flaws to deal with before he can save his relationship with both of his daughters. turning the music down after standing up from her bed, the dark haired woman crosses her arms before coming to a halt before him.   ❛ there something you need? ❜   lips thin, a single brow quirking. she lives at home still, not that she necessarily wants to, but she also has no reason to leave. and it’s not all bad with viktor…
