i’d say selene views her past as sort of… filled with betrayal and lies? because that’s kind of all it was. she was lied to by viktor when he said it was the LYCANS that killed her family, which then sort of steered her down the path of revenge and violence and, obviously, emotional detachment. she became obsessed in a way when it came to the lycans, for she’d sort of been brainwashed into thinking they’re awful creatures because they killed her family, when in reality it was her own kind that had betrayed her. furthermore, not a lot of people really respected her as a death dealer. while her closer “friends” knew her to be more than capable and brave ( maybe foolish ), kraven and even viktor saw her as little more than either a prize or a child. when she met michael, however, all of that kind of changed. he showed her kindness and was grateful to her for saving his life, and he even seemed to care about her well being. not to mention lucian, a lycan, was even ( somewhat ) kind to her. aside from stabbing her shoulder at the beginning of underworld, he WANTED selene and michael to be able to keep going. he saw himself and sonja in the two of them, and if he were to die right then ( as he did ), he wanted to know that not only his legacy would continue on, but that a love like his and sonja’s was able to actually grow stronger where his was destroyed. lucian’s ‘kindness’ opened selene’s eyes further, as did viktor’s eventual admission to having lied to her all her life haha.
that’s not to say she up and drops her past and doesn’t think about it ever again, because that’s not true. her past is what’s made her who she is today, strong and able and a warrior. it’s because of what she’s endured that she’s still alive. and while it’s not something she necessarily likes to speak about, she still doesn’t renounce or deny anything that happened to her.

while i think back in her early days she would have been impatient and almost bored when training new death dealers, i don’t see her as being that way now. she’s grown up a lot over the series, in many ways, and as an elder i think she fully realizes just how important having trained fighters is. she’s fought wars and she’s lost a lot of shit, and i highly doubt selene would wish that on even her enemy. with that said, i imagine she’d personally train the new recruits, as well as allow varga to sort of be co-trainer in charge, because they both know how to fight since they’ve both lived it more times than they care to count ( tho obvs varga likes to keep count… forty kills smh @ u boy ). so in short, selene doesn’t see it as “dealing” with rookies, so much as preparing them for what may or may not come. simply them knowing how to fight will save them a lot of trouble in the long run, and she only wants her coven strong and thriving at this point.

└ what is ONE THING you like about the way i play my character?

!!!!! thank you so much for sending this in, jen. honestly, i strive to find the balance within selene in that sense. she is an emotionally distant female character and she has been cold for so many centuries, but a lot has changed in her life and thus, she too must change. meeting michael opened her eyes, and falling in love with him opened her heart. even now it’s difficult for her to convey that, but she does try. and then with the addition of eve, as well as david… selene struggles, but she doesn’t push any of them away now bc she KNOWS just how important family is. but again, i gotta keep that emotionally detached way about her bc like… she’s gone 600+ years without being overly emotional, and now she has family. it’ll take some getting used to lol. but yes i’m so v v v glad you notice this bc >.< it makes me hella happy. love you, jen. ♥
