DAVID ELDERSBLOODED.

David glances up as he heard the knock, watching as the door slid open even before he could call out a reply. He didn’t mind however, as it was Selene and not someone else. As long as it was her, it was fine. He sighed at her words, his eyes moving back toward the glass, staring out over the courtyard outside. He shook his head, “…Maybe…I’m not suited to the title I’ve been given.” he confessed softly. His words filled with pondering thought and insecurity. He turned more fully then, to give the other his full attention. “I’m twenty five years old Selene, a sliver to your a thousand years. I haven’t even lived a full human span of life…how could I be a true elder…when I have no idea what it is to live truly as an immortal?” he spoke steadily, but it was more than obvious it had all been thought over for some time.

a part of selene has expected this topic to come up sooner or later, and because of that she’s been able to somewhat prepare herself. gaze falling briefly as her arms cross over her chest, she’ll walk further into the room and eventually meet david’s gaze as his attention is turned fully to her.   ❛ you have also seen so much more than even the council has seen… you’ve put your own life on the line more than any of them have, david. that is why you’ve been appointed an elder. ❜   comforting someone has never been one of selene’s strong suits, but many things have changed since she’d learned of her daughter.   ❛ and just as you question why you’ve been given this title, so do i. i’ve betrayed this coven many times over. ❜   or rather, she’d betrayed the coven in their eyes, but had simply been doing what no one else would, and for all the right reasons.   ❛ there is a reason for everything, david. you have experienced so much already, and that experience will only build with time. ❜

Being an elder, although a privilege was taxing and weighing on one’s conscious. It had been five years from the battle they would later call The Blood War. This meaning David was now roughly thirty human years and still so much younger then the other’s. He was still within the rage of a mortal life time and given a title most other’s had been given 100s of years into their immortal existence. It was overwhelming at times, but the younger vampire did his best to keep up and do what was needed of him. This day had been a bit to much for him however. The three elders meeting with the remaining covens and the few newer covens that had rebuilt since the fall.

The coven leaders having all lived more than one human life span of time and he could see the judgement in their eyes. That an elder of their kind of their people was no elder at all, but a child. He had known it would come, but it had been different when fully faced with it. The meeting had come to a close and David had used the rambling of conversation to escape. He did not wish to be interrogated or questioned, knowing it would all be nothing more then the passive-aggressive words of vampires more than triple his own age. So rather he’d hide away in his room, sitting in the nook of the large window pain, staring out at the moon.

selene notices it when he leaves, but she hangs back to converse with lena and the other council members. it ensures their trust, to speak with them and agree with them, though she makes sure to stick to her own roots in many of the decisions made.

she’ll leave nearly half an hour later, however, knowing exactly where david will be; and she’s not wrong. with a soft knock at his door, she’ll grasp the handle and twist it until she’s able to enter the room. he’s not been the same since they’d all been appointed elder, so she knows better than to come on too strong. they know each other best, though, and even selene can’t deny that despite how hard she continues to keep everyone shut out.   ❛ this is the third time this week that you’ve come here after our meetings, david. — is something bothering you? ❜   a few steps are taken further into the room, her words soft and almost… kind.

“I would have.” another flat reply, no hesitation, no thought. It was an exact answer. It had been how he truly felt. Little did she know, he would have done it for her, for Eve. He’d already began challenging his own father knowing her cause had been pure. Even his father had given his life knowing Selene was right in the end. She’d seen the corruption in everything, even when the others had not. “I would have done what needed to be done if it meant protecting the one I loved.” he kept his words vague, cryptic. He made it out as if he mere would have agreed with her, would have done what she had done. He knew better then say his true feelings, especially now. For now he’d do his best to help her where he could.

her head shakes, lips thinning ever so slightly.   ❛ how can you know that, david? ❜   selene counters, far more vulnerable than she’d ever been in this moment with david.   ❛ the pain i put others through… the innocent lives i took because i was set on hurting those that hurt me. ❜   head shaking, tears continuing to fall down her cheeks, her words become far more difficult to articulate.   ❛ even before i met michael i was reckless. — how have i been appointed elder after what i’ve done? ❜   arms are crossed firmly over her chest, lower lip quivering.

“Don’t.” he retorted rather flatly. “What you’ve done up to this point has been nothing more than to protect those that you lose. You are loyal and anyone would have done the same if put in your position.” he countered, stern, serious. This may have been the result of what Selene had done in the past, but he did not feel it’s what she’d deserved. What had happened to Michael was disgusting, vile, …evil and the wolf that had stolen his power and life, had deserved his fate. Not only had it been Selene’s loss, but also her daughter who would now never have the chance to know her father.

he knows her well, despite their short time together, but her connection with david is among the closest she’s ever had with another. aside from michael and her own daughter, of course. with his comforting presence, however, she’ll manage to meet his gaze without hesitation, hues a dark brown; for now.   ❛ would they have slaughtered two of the three elders? would they have TURNED against their own kind? ❜   though what selene had done could hardly be considered turning against the vampires, for she’d fought for what was right, and what their kind had been doing was wrong.

David turned as Selene spoke, slightly surprised that she’d asked him to stay. Although, it meant she trusted him more than he had originally thought. He stepped back into the room, a soft frown tugging at his lips as he watched the tear fall. He moved across the room, caution in his step, knowing better but unable to stop himself. He moved around so that he stood in front of her as she attempted to turn away. A hand moving up to brush a rough thumb gently along her cheek, wiping away the mild moisture. “…I’m sorry.” he breathed, the words no more than a whisper. He knew the apology wouldn’t do much to mend her heart, but for what is was worth, he felt the need to say it.

image

david is all she has, he’s family, and if selene can’t trust family then she can’t trust anyone. despite the fact she turns away, it’s a much needed comfort when the male, her FELLOW ELDER, is suddenly standing before her and brushing away the tear that falls. her vulnerability is a rarity, even more so that she’d allow someone to witness the shift in her demeanor. nonetheless, head lifts and gaze meets david’s own.   ❛ there is no need for you to feel sorry for me, david. ❜   she inhales a shaky breath.   ❛ one could even say i brought this on myself. ❜   the chuckle that follows is stiff, bitter too, for she truly believes what she’s said.

David bowed his head, despite the volume of her words had heard them crystal clear. It hadn’t been his place to ask, despite his own feelings, he should have known better. “my apologies.” both for the loss of the man she loved and also for his own prying into the matter. She was right, he was gone and there was nothing either of them could do about it. But David knew she was wounded more then she cared to admit. Only wishing he could tell her that she didn’t have to be strong all the time. Slowly moving his weight from the frame he’d been rested against he nod once more in respect, “I’ll leave you then. But Selene…” he dared glance up to meet her gaze, “I’m here for you.” and with that would turn to go.

image

it takes all selene has in her to stay strong, to keep herself from opening up to her only friend, but she cannot do it.   ❛ david… please stay. ❜   it’s the first sign of weakness she’s shown him in a long time, shown anyone, and selene can’t stop the tear that falls down her porcelain cheek.   ❛ i saw what marius did to him… he drained michael of all his blood. ❜   it’s all the vampire manages to say before looking away, eyes closing as her body turns in the opposite direction of david.

“𝒮𝑒𝓁𝑒𝓃𝑒…about Michael.” David dared bring up once everything had finally settled. He leaned casually against the door’s frame that lead into Selene’s bedroom. “…how are you doing?” he cared and worried for her, she’d searched so long for him only to discovery he had been gone for some time. Selene had already gone through so much in her 1000 years. In comparison he was a child, but it did not change how he felt. They were both elders now, he felt it also his duty to know how she was doing, despite his own personal feelings on the matter. She was strong, but he wondered how much more she could take at this point, with her heart deeply wounded.

image

it’s a sore subject still, to say the least, and with her back to her fellow elder as she stares out her window across the coven’s property, she’ll lift her chin ever so slightly.   ❛ — please don’t. ❜   though the words are spoken quietly, they are still firm. after a long moment, however, the vampire turns, arms dropping to her sides.   ❛ he’s gone. there’s nothing more to say. ❜   it hurts her far too much, that much obvious in the way she silently pleads for him to cease his questions. david is the only other man she’s ever trusted aside from michael, though, and the elder female wouldn’t be surprised if she gave in and spoke to him of it anyways.
